Chiropractic
What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic is a natural health care discipline based on the scientific principles that the human body is both a self-healing and self-regulating system.
Chiropractic care focuses on the key relationship between the nervous system and how the spine moves and functions. This in turn alleviates the pressure and irritation on both the spinal joints and spinal nerves that are often associated with pain, discomfort, and abnormal joint movement.
What is a Chiropractic adjustment?
A Chiropractic adjustment is a targeted manual therapy skill. A specific force is applied in a precise direction to a joint that is fixated “stuck” or isn’t moving properly. This technique improves joint mobility and allows the joints to gradually regain their normal movement and function. Chiropractic adjustments are a natural and safe manual therapy used to assist the improvement of spinal and pelvic function, nervous system function and improved health.
After many years of training, a Chiropractor has various adjustment approaches to deliver. Usually using the
Chiropractors hands or a specially designed tool that delivers a short, controlled thrust. Some adjustments may be quick while others may require slow or indirect pressure.
What should I expect from a Chiropractic session?
Initial Consultation
In the first Chiropractic appointment, a thorough patient case history including medical history, surgeries, accidents, and other details regarding the onset of your condition and current health are taken. Our Chiropractor will also prioritise setting a health goal to work towards which could be all and anything from various aspects of pain relief, to feeling more energetic, to getting up and moving more and playing with the grandkids! After reviewing your history, an orthopaedic, neurological and chiropractic assessment is performed to check the spine and associated joints. This assessment helps the Chiropractor identify areas of spinal dysfunction associated with nervous system irritation. The findings of the assessment are explained and if required, referred for an X-ray to uncover and diagnose any structural spinal problems associated with the function of the spine and pelvis.
Report of Findings
The second Chiropractic appointment is used to explain the findings of the X-ray and/or examination and deliver customised Chiropractic treatment. A plan of Chiropractic adjustments may be recommended. Progress is monitored with periodical assessments and follow-up reports.
Standard Chiropractic Session
A standard Chiropractic appointment involves all the spinal and/or pelvic adjustments required for your condition and with regular Chiropractic appointments, works towards the original goal/s you may have set. If you haven't had a regular Chiropractic session in more than 12 months or have had any changes to your health that require updating, you may need a Review session which allows the Chiropractor ample time to re-assess your health as necessary.
